Later, people discovered that dogs were more loyal than foxes. As a result, 4,000 years later, the Maltese appeared as a pet dog in people's lives.
6,000 years ago, Egyptians began domesticating cats and worshipped them as gods. Cat mummies were even placed in tombs alongside mummified mice.
From the domestication of foxes to the present, over 16,500 years, humans have gradually shifted their emotions toward animals. They are loyal, quiet, and adorable, increasingly taking up important positions in human emotional history. These animals have transitioned from mere tools to family members and friends who accompany us.
I have often pondered, what is the significance of keeping pets?
No one would deny that modern people are lonely. Or rather, ever since humans developed emotions, no one has ever been free from loneliness.
But pets are different. Regardless of your wealth or personality, they always wait for you at home. Dogs don’t mind if the household is poor, and truly, only dogs (pets) don’t mind poverty.
They will be by your side, breathing heavily when you’re happy, and silently comforting you when you’re sad. They lie quietly at your feet as you sleep and wake up with you when you stir.
They may not be our whole world, nor should they be, but undeniably, they have become an essential part of our world. So, it’s really hard for me to accept the passing of a pet. Even seeing a stray cat stop breathing in front of me leaves me feeling helpless. I made dozens of calls that day, searching all the pet hospitals, but I couldn’t find a reason to keep it from returning to the stars. I was very sad, and the sadness lingered for a long time. I often recall that night, unable to express my feelings. So, I can’t bear to see my pets leave, even though I know that day will eventually come. I can’t stand to watch their eyes slowly close, their breath stop, extinguishing that tiny glimmer of light in the world.
I know what it feels like to watch life slip away and to feel helpless as the faint light of life is extinguished. So, I am truly grateful for Shenzhen and those who treat our pets kindly.
Thank you all for not abandoning hope and for respecting every life on this earth.
Whether my pet is a cat, a dog, or even a pig, thank you for treating them as family.
Thank you for being kind to our pets.
